Instead of studying for my midterm, I’m killing time by checking out the cool possibilities.

This is a 3D plot for plotting spherical coordinates by converting spherical to cartesian. There are three different views below.

Disaster Aid Invention Needs Votes!

Posted on | April 5, 2010 | 1 Comment

My sister brought to my attention a couple months ago the Pepsi Project where you can submit your idea and request X amount of funding for it. After Pepsi approves your idea, it has a month to gather votes, and if you are fortunate enough to make it to the top 10 in your category, you get the money you ask for! Problem is, it takes tremendous amount of work to get votes, and you have to vote everyday! Anyway, here is the invention idea in case you’re interested. Voting ends 4/30. Please vote : )

Idea is to:

Design, develop, test deployment of customized shipping container to transport food supplies. This invention would enable people affected by severe natural disasters (i.e. earthquakes, hurricanes) to never go without food and essential supplies. In natural disaster, roads are often obstructed by debris, and harbors are damaged so that food and aid are dispersed slower than needed. The shipping container will be modified to be a giant vending machine that can be transported via helicopter to desolate areas. The container will hold a massive supply of food, and have an electronic interface for individuals. The interface will allow for input of personal information that can uplink to a database easily accessible via internet so that loved ones will know their relatives are safe. Interface will also contain finger print reader so that each individual receives their ration fairly. This will elimiate riots/unrest, also alleviate the demand for personnel to distribute supplies.

Math and Photography?

Posted on | March 1, 2010 | 2 Comments

I saw this in the latest issue of Wired Magazine. Apparently a woman who is interested in math and photography takes pictures of sceneries/objects that represents a math function. She then overlays a graph onto her photo to illustrate the similarity. Pretty cool stuff!

With entrepreneurs in residence, venture capital firms in Silicon Valley host proven businesspeople, hoping for another successful start-up.
Very interesting, this is the first time that I have heard of such a thing. EIR = Entrepreneurs in Residence. Sounds pretty cool to me!

Interesting News: Richard Branson’s Submarine

Posted on | February 22, 2010 | 1 Comment

Richard Branson Launches High-Tech ‘Flying’ Submarine: Virgin mogul Richard Branson recently unveiled a new ocean plaything for the intrepid super rich: A deep-sea submarine. “Necker Nymph,” an “underwater plane” that can dive up to 40 meters below the surface, is the latest addition to to Branson’s luxury collection which includes a private island, a superyacht and a spaceship.  The $631,000 flying sub, the first of its kind, uses fighter jet technology and was designed by Hawkes Ocean Technologies. It is transparent enough to allow divers a 360-degree view of marine life and Virgin is marketing it as a way to view dolphins and whales close up. “Necker Nymph” is not Branson’s first foray onto the frontlines of adventure technology. Last December, he unveiled “SpaceShipTwo,” a spacecraft that promises to take civilians into orbit for a cool $200,000 by 2011.

Here’s another link of the “flying sub” with some photographs of the sub and the launch craft: http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TECH/02/18/branson.flying.submarine/

About

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success."
